Sloan Christmas

This year was our family's turn to read the Christmas story (Luke 2). Bryan prepped Lucy to say the "Glory to God in the highest" line. When it came time, he pointed to her and Lucy happily said, "Glory to Noah!" We all laughed. She tried again. "Glory in the highest of the Lord!"

Lucy: I think it'll be too far.

* Lucy (while wearing her camo dress) saw a cat outside and told us, "We gotta shoot that!"

* Lucy: I left a monster at Robby's house.

* Lucy: I just want to play and stay at home and be a kid. I don't want to go to school, and I don't want to jump on the trampoline, and I don't want to go to kindergarten. And I don't want to grow up and be a big girl. And I don't want to go to the store anymore.

* Lucy: I can't jump really high because I don't have a tail.

* Lucy: (pointing to a fuzzy caterpillar) He's wearing a jacket.

* Lucy: This mountain is kinda really cool. Those are mountains so I think I can climb them up all by myself.

* Lucy: Dogs make girls happy. I have lots of names for my dog. (We don't have a dog.)
Me: What do you want to name your dog?
Lucy: Max

* Lucy (after seeing a dog run past our breakfast nook window): Is that my dog?!

* Lucy (playing with her cousins): I'll be the daddy. You be the sweetheart.

* Lucy: (pointing to the bath tub drain) Where does the water go?
Bryan: (gave a long answer)
Lucy: So that's how that works.

* We were driving in the car listening to classical music to calm the girls. A piano concerto came on (I only know that because I thought it was so pretty even I looked at the XM Satellite dial to see what it was.) When it ended Lucy clapped enthusiastically.

* Lucy: Everybody loves Lucy.

* Daddy: Where's Mommy?
Lucy: She's at the Errands Store

* Lucy: It's taking a long time to grow up.

* Lucy: Mawma!!! (Channel Will Ferrell's "Mama! Meatloooaf!)

* Abby: Maw-maaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Last Day

We visited Bryan at work on his last day before celebrating at Chick-Fil-A (or "chickalay" as Lucy pronounces it) for dinner.

(We were driving into Chick-Fil-A and Lucy said, "Mommy. I see Chickalay. He says 'Ucy come play.'")

Cold on your leg?

Sometimes when you're working in the kitchen, Lucy likes to pull frozen teething toys and the Cinderella ice pack out of the freezer, put it on you and ask, "Is it cold on your leg??"

SLL Birthday

Psalm 145

1 I will exalt you, my God and King,
and praise your name forever and ever.
2 I will praise you every day;
yes, I will praise you forever.
3 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure his greatness.

4 Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts;
let them proclaim your power.
5 I will meditate on ... your wonderful miracles.

8 The Lord is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9 The Lord is good to everyone.
He showers compassion on all his creation.
10 All of your works will thank you, Lord,
and your faithful followers will praise you.
11 They will speak of the glory of your kingdom;
they will give examples of your power.
13 For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
You rule throughout all generations.

The Lord always keeps his promises;
he is gracious in all he does.
14 The Lord helps the fallen
and lifts those bent beneath their loads.
15 The eyes of all look to you in hope
18 The Lord is close to all who call on him

21 I will praise the Lord,
and may everyone on earth bless his holy name
forever and ever.

The need for mittens

When it's 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside and you're eating an ice cream sandwich, you wear mittens because:
(a) the patio furniture is too hot to touch
(b) the ice cream is too cold on your hands
(c) the ice cream sandwich gets your fingers too messy
(d) all of the above
