Happy 3rd Birthday

Lucy picked out her dress for the party from the store last week, and it has been patiently hanging on her closet door since. We decorated cookies, jumped on the trampoline, took turns at the pinata, Lucy ran to pick up the candy when it broke; we had story time with Mrs. Mandy, blew out the candles, and ate cupcakes. Lucy enjoyed an after-the-birthday-party cupcake, and we took a special picture of the amazing cookie Lucy decorated. We love Lucy and thank God for the joy she is.

Getting ready for the birthday party...

Lucy loves making cookies, and I love it when she helps me. She says things like, "Ucy help Mommy!" and "Mmmmm, yummy" and "I just need to taste it," so it makes it ok when she pours the whole box of baking soda into the dough. She also helped Bryan make a kids' table for the party.

Reading books

Burro the Pink Piñata

I was making eggs for breakfast when Lucy walked in carrying the (I thought) well-hidden piñata for her birthday party next week.

Funny face

30 year-old crayons

I used these crayons (out of the same cigar tin) at Mema Lucy's house when I was growing up. I think they color brighter with age.

The Paper Bag Princess

If Lucy says "Ronald," she means: Read my favorite book, "The Paper Bag Princess (please)." She recited the slang version to me this afternoon. At the end of each page she laughs and says "yeah" kinda like an amen. We read it to the tune of 1 Samuel 16:7, "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

Pink plastic princess shoes

Lucy was putting her silver sparkly shoes under her pillow when she went to sleep, but now they've been replaced by the pink plastic princess dress up shoes she got for Christmas from Abby.

Christmas Eve

We've been doing the Jesse Tree Advent with Lucy, so we had a Christmas Eve service at home with all of the cousins and sang "Happy Birthday" and blew out 24 candles.

"The Green Pinch" according to Lucy

Since she's a big girl (and loves music), we dressed up and took Lucy to see "The Grinch" with the big kids. She loved it. She clapped. She called him "the green pinch."

Lucy gave all of her pacis to Henry...

(because only babies use pacis, and Lucy is a big girl)

... and the next day at lunch she prayed, "Pray for Baby Henry and Henry's pacis and for all the pacis to go to the babies and for Henry feel better and for Layla and Justin and Robby and Amy and for Mommy's drink and for Lucy taste Mommy's drink and taste like water and sandwich in triangles. Amen."

The ballerina

10 pounds, 4 ounces, and she rolls

The doctor put her on her tummy and said she was doing well and would roll anytime now. He picked up his pen to write in her chart, and she rolled over.

Henry

Born to Alathea & Justin. He's sweet and healthy, but he was born with an infection so he's in the NICU for 10 days.
